Olympic boxing star Anthony Ogogo joins Strictly Come Dancing line-up

London 2012 Olympic boxing medallist Anthony Ogogo is the ninth celebrity named in the new series of BBC1’s dancing show Strictly Come Dancing.

Anthony said: “I’ve faced a lot of tough opposition in the past, but I’ve never faced anyone as tough as the Strictly judges before! My mum is a massive fan of the show so I will be trying my hardest to make her proud.”

The 26-year-old from Lowestoft, Suffolk, will join Jeremy Vine, Ainsley Harriott, Kellie Bright, Georgia May Foote, Katie Derham, Carol Kirkwood, Peter Andre and Daniel O’Donnell on this year’s Strictly.

Anthony has been boxing since the age of 12 and has won medals throughout his career, including gold at the 2005 IABA Cadet World Championships in the 70kg, a silver medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the 2012 London Olympics.

Anthony has taken to Twitter to explain why he’s doing Strictly when some suggest he should be concentrating on his boxing.
