An unstoppable juggernaut at the box-office over the summer, Terminator Salvation finds Charlie’s Angels director McG at the helm for the fourth instalment of the sci-fi action thriller franchise.
The series has now reached the year 2018, where Christian Bale’s John Connor is rallying the human resistance against artificial intelligence network Skynet and its robot army. But can he trust stranger Marcus Wright (Aussie actor Sam Worthington), a death-row prisoner from the past who has somehow been resurrected?
Bale’s on-set rant during filming has become notorious, but his dour performance leaves you wondering why he got so worked up. In any case, Aussie actor Worthington as the enigmatic Marcus leaves him in the shade, as do Anton Yelchin (Chekov in the re-booted Star Trek) as the young Kyle Reese (the chap who’ll grow up to become Connor’s dad) and the wonderfully named Moon Bloodgood as a lissome resistance pilot. I could have done without the film’s cute mute moppet (Jadagrace), however, and the CGI Arnie that pops up briefly towards the end is little more than a gimmick.
Released on 23rd November.
