Outnumbered may have wrapped up last year, but it is coming back for a one-off special.

The BBC One sitcom starred Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner as Pete and Sue Brockman, the stressed parents of three charming yet difficult children who ‘outnumbered’ them. It ran for five series, but ended in March 2014.

But creators Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin have revealed they are ‘working on new ideas’ for the show.

Andy said on FUBAR Radio: “We hope to visit the family for a kind of one-off. Me and Guy, on our wall, in our office, we have a list of ideas we are trying to work out.”

He continued: “We’ve done a few Christmas specials, but you kind of disappear in a big gap of Christmas programming. We’re kind of inclined to do it somewhere else if we can.

“That’ll be a discussion me and Guy have to have between ourselves and then the BBC. We’re hoping to film it next year.”

Hugh and Claire were at the helm of the chaotic Brockman family from when the show started in 2007. Ramona Marquez, 14, Daniel Roche, 16, and Tyger Drew-Honey, 19, starred as their kids Karen, Ben and Jake. The show was heavily improvised, particularly by the children.

Outnumbered won a National Television Award for Best Comedy in 2012.
