Coleen McLoughlin and Jennifer Ellison have been branded bad role models for being so tanned. Research in Liverpool has shown 60 per cent of 13 to 15-year-old girls are using sunbeds on a regular basis to look more like the sun-baked celebrities, according to The Guardian. Children are even being bullied for having pale skin, and forging letters of consent from their parents to use sunbeds, the paper claims. John Hayes, chief of Merseyside and Cheshire Cancer Network who carried out the research, has blamed celebrities such as footballer’s wife Alex Curran, Coleen and Jennifer. He said: “It is not just the fault of peer pressure, but Britain’s obsession with celebrity. “Children should not be following the example of people like Jordan and Peter Andre. They should be looking up to stars who stay away from the sunbed – like Nicole Kidman.” Britain has one of the world’s highest skin cancer rates, with 60,000 cases a year.
