Disaster hit the Australian version of Next Top Model when host Sarah Murdoch announced the wrong winner during the live final.
Sarah was left mortified after realising a mistake had been made in crowning 19-year-old Kelsey Martinovich the winner.
Kelsey was interupted while making her acceptance speech by Sarah, who said: “I’m feeling a bit sick about this. I’m so sorry, this was a complete accident”. She then announced the real winner was 18-year-old Amanda Ware: “It’s Amanda, I’m so sorry”.
The host of the show, now in it’s sixth series, tried to explain the error, saying: “The lead kept changing. It was literally down to a couple of votes.
“It was fed to me wrong. This is what happens when you have live TV, folks”.
The show, broadcast on the Fox8 pay TV channel, said Kelsey would be awarded AUS$25,000 (£15,162) and a free trip to the US by way of an apology.
Meanwhile, winner Amanda will be signed with modelling agency Priscilla’s, receive a $25,000 contract to appear in a Levi’s campaign, visit New York to meet with ELITE agency, get a Ford Fiesta Zetec, $20,000 cash and pose for an eight-page spread for Harper’s Bazaar Australia.
