TV magician Paul Daniels has revealed that he accidentally sliced the top off two of his fingers during a mishap with a circular saw on New Year’s Day.
The 73-year-old said that the accident happened when he was making props in his garden shed and the block of wood leapt up, pushing his hand into the blade of the saw.
He told the Daily Mail that he managed to stop the saw with his right hand and drove himself to hospital in Henley-On-Thames, near his home in Berkshire.
“The saw went right through my first finger, missed my middle one almost completely and took the top of my third one,” Paul told the Daily Mail.
He added that while surgeons were able to save his index finger they were unable to reattach the top of his ring finger.
“How it missed the second finger is a trick in itself. The top of the third finger is all ground up and gone,” he said.
However he is expecting to make a full recovery. “I was very worried,” he said. “They did a fantastic job. Everything’s on the mend now.”
Paul – who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2010 dancing with Ola Jordan, is due to go on tour next month.
He admitted he may have to “change my methods slightly” in the wake of his accident, but the shows are still set to go ahead.
