The life and career of the influential special-effects guru Ray Harryhausen receives a fitting tribute in a new documentary, which gets a limited UK cinema release this week, kicking off with a special Q&A at The Gate Picturehouse in London on Friday (9 November).

Filmed over a five-year period, Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan, chronicles how the 92-year-old animator pushed the boundaries of special effects movie-making throughout the 1950s and 1960s. With unprecedented access to Harryhausen’s archives, the film reveals the secrets behind his stop-motion wizardry, while a Who’s Who of A-list film-makers, including Frankenweenie’s Tim Burton and Wallace and Gromit‘s Nick Park, pay tribute to the man who inspired their own careers.
