Phillip Schofield has said that he will make the final decision as to who replaces his co-host Fern Britton on This Morning.

The Mirror reports that Phillip talked about a replacement for Fern – who announced this week he is leaving the show in July – on his Twitter webpage.

“Enough suggestions please,” he told fans on the site, “I get to choose.”

And as one of ITV’s biggest stars – he has a £2m ‘golden handcuffs’ deal with the channel – it is thought he will be given a major say in who becomes his new co-presenter.

Among the favourites is Ruth Langsford, who already presents the show on Friday with her new fiance Eamonn Holmes.

She will co-present the show for a week alongside Phillip in April while Fern is on holiday.

An insider told the paper that Phillip would be involved in the final selection process but would not have the sole decision.

“His TV bosses will have something to say about it, but of course Phillip will be involved. We are actively looking into finding a replacement for Fern, but the process has only just begun. Reports that we’ve already signed someone are wide of the mark.”

Fern announced on Wednesday that she would be quitting This Morning after 10 years, in order to “explore other things” and spend more time with her family.
