Russell Brand has reportedly been invited to host next year’s MTV Video Music Awards, despite the controversy he caused at this year’s event.

The 33-year-old presented the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night and caused a stir with an opening monologue which took aim at President Bush, Madonna and the Jonas Brothers.

But the wild-haired comic told the Daily Mirror: “The executive producer came up to me straight after the show and asked me to sign up to do next year’s awards too.

“The viewing figures went up by 20 per cent on last year’s show which is unbelievable. I’m really flattered.”

Russell spent the day before the ceremony filming his next movie Get Him To The Greek, which features music stars such as Pink, Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry.

He told the paper: “I’ve got a soft spot for Pink and I had to kiss her. We have this scene where we are walking down the road snogging and then I have to be sick. Not nice.”

Russell added: “When I was kissing Pink I was thinking, this isn’t work. Those kisses were unprofessional. I quite enjoyed that.”
