After a successful one-off, ITV has reconfirmed its plans for a whole series
Wrestling is returning to mainstream telly again as ITV is lining up a 10-part series of WOS Wrestling.
Fans of a certain age will remember how the likes of Big Daddy and man mountain Giant Haystacks had viewers glued to their screens back in the 1980s on World of Sport.
The sport returned to ITV with a one-off in 2016
ITV brought it back for a one-off special on New Year’s Eve in 2016 and it proved such a hit they’ve ordered a whole series, which originally looked like being on last year but is now set to be on in 2018.
The broadcaster promises the series “will be jam-packed with UK’s top names in the sport, competing in a fun-filled evening of family sports entertainment”.
Each episode will be filmed in front of a live audience in Norwich, with a string of bouts taking place before the winner takes home the coveted Championship belt.
ITV has yet to reveal when exactly it will be shown. World of Sport, whose legendary presenters included Eamonn Andrews and Dickie Davies, featured wrestling regularly until it ended in 1985.

Tom McLennan, Creative Director, ITV Studios Entertainment said: “There is a massive indie wrestling scene in the UK and a strong nostalgia for the wrestling shows of our youth. WOS Wrestling will combine the best of the past with incredible talent available today to make a fun, exciting and thrilling show that the whole family can enjoy.”
