Richard Madeley has said Myleene Klass would be a good replacement for Fern Britton on This Morning, though he added the star was ‘very thinly spread’.

The TV host, who presented This Morning from its inception in 1988 to 2001 with wife Judy Finnegan, suggested both Myleene and Today With Des And Mel presenter Melanie Sykes would be a good co-presenter for Philip Scofield on the ITV programme.

Speaking at the Galaxy British Book Awards, Richard, 52, said: “I’ve worked with Myleene Klass when Judy had a week off to have some work done on her eyes and she was very good, extremely good and she’d be excellent although she is very thinly spread at the moment.”

He continued: “(She does) so many things so that might have an impact.”

Myleene, 31, presents Channel 4’s 10 Years Younger and has guest spots on several television and radio programmes.

She also models for M&S and has her own children’s clothing line.

Talking about Melanie, Richard said: “Melanie Sykes I think could be very good and… Melanie is very experienced now.

“I remember I did one show with her once, again back on This Morning and she was very good, very switched on and she’s done a lot since then. So those are the two names I would throw into the ring.”

Judy, 60, mooted GMTV host Kate Garraway.

“I think Kate Garraway is very good, I think she’s warm and she’s got children, she’s just about to have a second baby,” she said.

Judy dismissed rumours that she and Richard would be returning to the sofa as ‘a load of old cobblers’.

Fern announced at the end of March that she would be quitting as co-host of This Morning after 10 years.
