Ricky Hatton has revealed he is considering competing in Strictly Come Dancing, despite the tight costumes involved.

The champion boxer, who announced his retirement from the ring this week, told the Daily Star he has been offered the chance to appear on both BBC ballroom show Strictly and rival ITV show Dancing On Ice, but he’s not sure about braving the ice rink.

Ricky said: “I’ve been asked to do the dancing and the skating, but my footwork is not as good on the ice as it is in the ring!”

He went on: “I’ll pick Strictly on the one condition that they let me wear my gloves! It’ll make me feel at home a bit more.”

The 32-year-old fighter revealed it is not the first time he has been asked to take part in Strictly but, now he’s retired, he’s willing to give it a go – even though the costumes don’t fit his macho style.

Ricky said: “A world champion boxer wearing Lycra and sequins – it’s not very fitting is it? But if that’s what you have to do, I’ve always been up for a laugh.”

Fellow boxer Joe Calzaghe took part in the 2009 series, partnering Russian professional Kristina Rihanoff.

Strictly Come Dancing returns in the autumn.
