British star Ricky Whittle has been busy preparing for the Amazon TV series American Gods, but loves to bust some moves when he finds the time.
Former Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle hasn’t lost his moves and reveals he’s still dancing and taking classes even though his acting career has taken off in Los Angeles.
Ricky revealed to What’s on TV that he still enjoys dancing in his free time after his success on Strictly Come Dancing in 2009 when he was partnered with Australian professional Natalie Lowe and finished runner up to Chris Hollins for the glitterball the trophy.
He said: “Strictly Come Dancing opened up a fire in my belly, I absolutely loved it. It was such a great experience. It is not something you can just let go of.”
Speaking about how he likes to spend his down time, Ricky said: “I am always going to love dancing… I will hear songs that I danced to all the time and be like ‘oh rumba’ or ‘American swing, oh I like that. Yup I remember that’.”
He added: “When I hit the dance floor I will always grab my lady or someone and throw them around the dance floor with moves I learned on the show.”
Whittle kept up his dancing when he moved to America. He took up individual classes and recently found his ballroom shoes while unpacking in his new apartment. He joked that on finding the dancing shoes he clicked them together and said “Oh, there is no place like home”.
The actor has been busy filming his starring role in new Amazon Prime Video TV series, American Gods. Preparation for the role was quite intense and involved a gruelling exercise regime and a 4000-calorie a day diet.
American Gods launches in the UK on 1 May and can be watched exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The series tracks Shadow Moon, played by Ricky, an ex-convict who is released from prison early. He meets a mysterious character called Mr Wednesday (Ian McShane) who turns out to know a lot more about Shadow than he thought possible…
