Former Strictly Come Dancing celebrity Robbie Savage has warned those about to take to the floor for the new series that they are not in for an easy ride.

The Match of the Day pundit finished sixth in the 2011 series of the show when he partnered Ola Jordan – but suffered a broken nose after attempting a difficult knee-slide and at one point also crashed into a camera.

And with Strictly set to return to screens on September 7 with its launch show, Robbie admitted: “It’s tough.

“I’ve seen some of the names that have been mentioned in the press and it looks like a good line-up, but I won’t be able to watch it because of my radio shows.”

15 new celebrities will take part in this year’s series of Strictly, with rumoured names including model Abbey Clancy, pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor, former X Factor winner Joe McElderry, rugby star Ben Cohen, ex-Corrie actress Natalie Gunmede and TV personality Vanessa Feltz.

Robbie added that despite his success in the show he has not shown off his new-found ballroom skills recently, saying: “No, no, I don’t keep it up at all.”

However he has returned to screens as one of the newest pundits on Match Of The Day – confessing that he still suffers stage fright before going in front of the cameras.

“TV is nerve-wracking. I was speaking to Alan Hansen the other day and he was telling me that he still gets nervous – and he’s the master of it,” Robbie revealed.

“Everything you say is criticised. It’s such an iconic show – you have to be on the top of your game.”
