Nicholas Lyndhurst is set to play his character Rodney’s father in a BBC prequel to the hit comedy Only Fools and Horses.

The show – which is going by the working title Sex, Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Chips – will see favourite characters Boycie, Trigger, Denzil and Roy Slater as teenagers.

Star Nicholas Lyndhurst will join a list of big names to make the show including Bad Girls’ Kellie Bright, Soldier Soldier’s Shaun Dingwall and The Inbetweeners’ James Buckley (pictured), who will play a teenage Del Boy Trotter.

Writer John Sullivan said: “Sex, Drugs And Rock ‘n’ Chips hurtles us into the rough and unglamorous world of London in 1960 to discover the circumstances that led to Del and Rodney Trotter turning out the way they did.

“Nick Lyndhurst is a comedy genius and I can’t think of anyone better suited to bring the shady but charming Freddie Robdal to life, and James Buckley has a tough act to follow but is sure to do for leather bomber jackets and winkle-pickers what David Jason did for camel-haired coats and cocktail umbrellas!”
