Comedian Russell Brand has married singer X Factor in a private ceremony in Jaipur, India.

The BBC News website reports that the wedding was conducted by a Christian minister, with both Russell and Katy wearing traditional Indian clothes.

The ceremony took place at the Aman-e-Khas luxury resort in a tiger reserve in Ranthambhore National Park.

Among the 85 guests at the wedding were funnyman David Baddiel, rap star P Diddy and R&B singer Rihanna, who was reportedly Katy’s maid of honour.

Most of them have been in India since Tuesday, where they enjoyed several days of celebrations leading up to the main event on Saturday.

“The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couple’s closest family and friends, was performed by a Christian minister and long time friend of the family,” a spokesman for the newlyweds revealed.

“The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of northern India.”

The Press Trust Of India reported that Russell’s wedding procession included 21 camels, elephants and horses.

Russell and Katy got together after meeting at the MTV Music Awards in 2009, where he was the host. They were only together for three months before he proposed.

Since the ‘Sachsgate’ scandal which led to him leaving his BBC Radio 2 show in late 2008 he has established a successful film career.

Katy, meanwhile, was most recently seen as a guest judge during the X Factor auditions and also performed her new single Firework on last weekend’s results show.
