Strictly Come Dancing‘s Russell Grant has revealed he has lost even more weight since he began appearing on the show – but he still won’t be squeezing into any figure-hugging outfits on the dancefloor.

The astrologer, who has lost 11 stone over the past two and a half years, told the Sunday Mirror he is shedding further pounds at a rate of knots thanks to the fast-paced dance routines.

“Costume have taken my pants in five inches and my collar three sizes since I started training,” he said. “I’m losing weight every single week.”

However the 60-year-old – who has become a viewer favourite thanks to his flamboyant routines with Flavia Cacace – said he would draw the line at wearing anything too revealing – and that he also wouldn’t be indulging in the fake tan beloved of contestants and profesionals.

“You won’t be seeing me in anything slashed to the waist,” he admitted. “Can you imagine? I still got quite a way to go… about three stone.”

“All my costumes have been very much high-necked. I wear outfits like Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey. While I’m dressed like the Dowager Duchess, we can leave it at make-up… forget the spray tans.”

He also pointed out that size was not necessarily a barrier when it came to learning the routines.

“People tend to forget that fat people can dance. It’s about rhythm, and you can have that no matter how big you are,” Russell said.
