Sam Bailey stole the show on Saturday night’s disco-themed X Factor as she swapped her ballads for something more uptempo.
The 34-year-old – who is Sharon Osbourne’s last remaining over-25 – wowed both judges and crowd with her rendition of the Donna Summer classic Enough Is Enough – which also saw her trade her sweeping gowns for a sequinned jumpsuit.
And the panel were particularly impressed by her transformation into a disco diva, with Gary Barlow admitting: “I was sure tonight you would struggle, how wrong I was.”
He added: “What a performance that was…flawless vocals, you really are a great performer.”
Nicole Scherzinger, meanwhile, added: “I believed you, I am a little afraid for your husband. You are so soulful, that was amazing.”
Sam said before her performance that her ‘confidence had been growing every week’ since becoming a part of the live shows.
She admitted: “I want to be in this competition till the very end, so I am doing everything I can to make sure I don’t go home.”
While Sam Bailey may have triumphed on Saturday’s show, it was a different story for Sam Callahan – who incurred the wrath of Gary Barlow with his Take That number.
The 19-year-old delivered a rendition of Relight My Fire – originally by Dan Hartman but a number one for the band in 1993 – and Gary appeared unimpressed.
“You are a lovely lad, you are keen to learn but I hated that performance,” he said afterwards.
However Sam’s mentor Louis quickly defended him, telling Gary: “That was a little bit harsh…I wish other people would work as hard as you, you came out 100 per cent fighting.”
