Sam Bailey’s reign at the top of the UK charts with Skyscraper has been cut short after just one week.
The 2013 series winner had become the first X Factor champion since 2010’s Matt Cardle to nab the Christmas number one after the song soared to the top spot last Sunday.
However this weekend she has surrendered pole position to Pharrell Williams, whose track Happy took the number two spot in the festive chart.
It is the third number one for the US singer this year following his appearances on Daft Punk’s Get Lucky and Robin Thicke single Blurred Lines.
Sam, meanwhile, has had to be content with the number two spot.
The former prison officer has been the subject of controversy over the weekend following claims that she was ‘discovered’ by PR guru Max Clifford two years before winning X Factor.
The Mail On Sunday claimed Clifford had persuaded Simon Cowell to let her audition for the show after hearing her sing – but he has denied having a hand in her success, saying: “All I did was open a few doors for her and talk to several influential people.”
