Sam Callahan’s X Factor dream is over

Sam Callahan has become the latest casualty of The X Factor, following a sing off which saw him compete against category colleague Luke Friend.

Both boys found themselves facing the fight for survival for the first time on Sunday night’s results show, leaving Louis Walsh with the dilemma of having to choose between his own acts.

However after they had both made their bid to remain in the competition, the Irish mogul refused to choose between them, leaving the vote to the other judges.

And ultimately they were unanimous in saving Luke, despite praising Sam for his efforts.

Sam it’s not all bad news for you, that was the best I’ve ever seen you do,” Gary Barlow told him. “I’ve given you some harsh critiques and you’ve taken it extremely well, you’re going to go far but the act I’m sending home is you.

Meanwhile Sharon Osbourne added: “That was the best performance I’ve ever seen from you Sam, I’m so angry with you for waiting so long to connect as a performer.”

Sam remained upbeat despite his departure from the show, telling the judges: “I’ve had the most amazing time, I’ve absolutely no regrets.”

He added: “I hope it’s just the beginning of a massive massive adventure and I cannot thank you enough, you guys are amazing.”

Sam is the first of Louis Walsh’s acts to depart the show – with the mogul having been the only judge not to lose an act prior to Sunday night.

Nicole Scherzinger has two performers remaining in the competition – Hannah Barrett and Tamera Foster – while Gary Barlow has Rough Copy and Sharon Osbourne has Sam Bailey.

The latter remains the favourite to win the competition, amid reports over the weekend that she was surging ahead with around 35 per cent of the votes in each show.

Next weekend will see the X Factor‘s 10th annviersary special, with Olly Murs and One Direction among those joining in the celebrations.

Sunday night’s show also featured a performance from controversial singer Miley Cyrus, who performed her recent chart-topper Wrecking Ball.

Despite initial fears that the 20-year-old would shock viewers with her performance, she kept things relatively tame, donning a long gold dress and sitting on top of a mountain to sing the track.
