Samantha Womack films EastEnders comeback

Samantha Womack has returned to the set of EastEnders, filming comeback scenes which could leave viewers shocked as her character Ronnie Mitchell is released from prison.

The character will return to Albert Square in the autumn after originally being sent to jail for kidnapping Kat and Alfie Moon’s newborn son Tommy – after her own child James succumbed to cot death.

But despite her past history viewers may be surprised to see her being met by Kat (Jessie Wallace) as she returns to the outside world.

The scenes are likely to add further drama to the controversial storyline, which attracted almost 9,000 complaints when it aired over Christmas 2010.

Samantha recently said she was ‘thrilled’ to be returning to Walford after her extended break, adding: “Ronnie’s re-appearance is going to create havoc.”

Meanwhile fans of the soap can look forward to another thriller this autumn as Phil Mitchell is involved in a devastating car crash.

Actor Steve McFadden, who plays Phil, was seen filming a scene yesterday in which his alter ego is flung through the windscreen of his Rover.

“It will be one of the most exciting scenes in EastEnders history,” a source told the Sunday Mirror.

Autumn will also see the return of Barbara Windsor as Peggy Mitchell, making a one-off guest appearance.
