As Scarlett Moffatt joins panel show CelebAbility as a new team captain, she reveals the TV shows she's addicted to and why she'd love to do Strictly Come Dancing
She first found fame on C4’s Gogglebox before being crowned winner of I’m A Celebrity in 2016. Since then popular down-to-earth Geordie, Scarlett Moffatt has gone from strength to strength on TV, as a presenter on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and also a co-host on I’m A Celebrity’s spin-off show, Extra Camp.
This week, 29-year-old Scarlett joins fun game show CelebAblilty as a team captain. The panel show, about to kick off its third series, is hosted by comedian and voice of Love Island, Iain Stirling and each week features a group of celebs going head to head with a group from the public headed by Scarlett.
TV Times speaks exclusively to Scarlett Moffatt about her Strictly Come Dancing dream and the fun she’s had on her new show CelebAblilty…
TVT: What about Strictly, you’re always in the frame as a possible to take part?
Scarlett Moffatt: “I would honestly love to do it, it’s my dream but I feel like it’s never going to happen because I’ve openly talked about the fact that I danced a lot growing up. I’d love to be partnered with Anton (Du Beke) he’s such a lovely man and he’s like the master of that show because he’s been on it right from the start. Who knows, I’ll keep trying my hardest!”
TV Times : What do you get up to in CelebAbility?
SM: “Each week me and a team from the public, who have the chance to win £5,000, go up against a team of celebrities doing crazy challenges. We have so much fun but I had no idea I was so competitive. I actually started to get really angry with myself if I wasn’t doing well! The first group of girls I’m with are all dancers and they taught me to twerk. I’m more a ballroom dancer not really a twerker but I gave it a go.”
TVT: Tell us about some of the challenges and the celebs you’ve got on the show….
SM: “The games are silly things like, who’s got the most expressive face or the quickest reflexes. One of the first celebs on is Lee Ryan from Blue. I was a Blue fan and had posters on my wall, although I have to confess Duncan was always my favourite. And probably the funniest time I had was going up against Richard Arnold. He and I play a game that involves a tarantula and a snake which is absolutely mad. I had one of those, ‘I CANNOT believe I’m actually doing this!’ moments.”
TVT: How did you and Iain who hosts the series, get on?
SM: “Everyone knows he’s super-funny because of his Love Island voiceovers so it was great to actually meet him. He’s so sweet and very professional. We had so many laughs together, I’ve definitely made a new friend.”
TVT: You were already a Love Island fan weren’t you?
SM: “Yes, I’m obsessed with it. I apologise in advance to all my friends because the minute that’s back on I’m going to be glued to my TV. I loved Jack (Fincham) and Danni (Dyer) last year. I’ve met Danni a few times and she’s such a genuine girl. I’m excited about seeing AJ Pritchard from Strictly’s brother, Curtis, on it this year.”
TVT: Do you still keep up with Gogglebox?
SM: “I do. I often see the old re-runs when they’re on at stupid-o-clock. I absolutely loved Leon and June, they were just couple gold. I watch the new ones too. The Geordie girls, Abby and Georgia, who are from near me, are really funny, they’ve got proper northern wit.”
TVT: What other shows are you glued to?
SM: “I always love Britain’s Got Talent, This Country with Daisy May Cooper is the funniest thing ever and I loved Fleabag with Phoebe Waller- Bridge. Everything she does is amazing. I was a huge fan of Killing Eve which she wrote. I recently spent £4.50 on a posh magazine just because she was on the cover and there was an interview inside with Jodie Comer. Trust me, I would never normally spend that much on a magazine, you can buy a lot of Crème Eggs for £4.50!”
TVT: What’s your perfect weekend?
SM: “I’m not a big going out person. I like spending time with my friends, family and boyfriend Scott. We often do big things together as a big group or we like just chilling at my house, having a couple of bottles of Prosecco and watching a box set. Scott gets on really well with my mum and dad and he’s got the same sense of humour as me, very dry and sarcastic which is good because when I’m being sarcastic he knows I’m not being mean!”
CelebAbility begins on ITV2 this Wednesday at 10.00pm.
