Shane Richie was forced to fill in as host of Paul O’Grady’s Channel 4 show – after the presenter was taken ill once again.
Ex-EastEnder Shane had been booked as a guest for Friday’s show, which was being pre-recorded on Wednesday.
But when Paul – who has already suffered two serious heart attacks – became ill, show bosses asked Shane to step in as host at the last minute, according to The Sun.
A source said: “Paul came over feeling terrible and doctors told him to go home, he hasn’t gone to the hospital, but he’s under strict orders to rest.”
Last week, Melanie Sykes took over for popular host Paul as he was suffering from flu.
But when Paul arrived back in the studio this week he felt too sick to work and doctors insisted he leave.
A show source said: “It’s all been very hair-raising for production, but we’ve managed to sort it out.
“Shane is pre-recording a show that will go out on Friday, while Brian Conley will host another show. This afternoon’s show will be presented by Lorraine Kelly.
“Since his heart attacks, Paul is under strict medical supervision and will have to stay home for the rest of the week.”
During every six-month stint of his teatime show, Paul has to take at least a week off, which is covered by guest hosts.
