Sharon Osbourne is reportedly fuming at plans to rush-release an album of Sam Bailey covers if she is crowned X Factor winner on Sunday night.

According to the Sunday People the 36-year-old – who will compete against Nicholas McDonald for the series title in the second part of the final – will be in the studio in January to record the album, which will be in the shops for Mother’s Day.

However Sharon does not approve of the plans, which she maintains would not give Sam time to develop her career in the manner of previous winners such as James Arthur or Matt Cardle – who waited months before releasing albums of original material.

“She has backed Sam all the way and thinks that she is so talented,” a source told the paper.

“She is very angry that Sam’s album is to be rushed out to cash in as quickly as possible.

“Usually the winners wait months and time is taken to ensure that the correct product is put out and they have the best chance of selling as many records as possible.

The insider added: “Sharon is extremely fond of Sam, they’ve become very close and she thinks she has got the most amazing voice.

“Sharon knows a star when she sees one, and she thinks Sam has got the X Factor.”

Gary Barlow has previously warned against the covers approach being taken for the former prison officer, saying that the next stage of her career would be ‘critical’.

“A covers album could be the worst thing for her,” he maintained. “They need to get a young team of songwriters in.”
