Simon Cowell is reported to have demanded huge changes to the forthcoming series of The X Factor, telling friends he had ‘had enough’ of the show in its current format.

According to the Mirror the shake-up will see choreographer Brian Friedman return to the show, while the judges will be personally tutored by Cowell amid concerns they ‘under-performed’ on last year’s series.

And plans for the revamp are reportedly being put in place ahead of the boot camp stage of the show which will begin filming shortly – in a bid to once again win the Saturday night ratings war over Strictly Come Dancing when both shows return in the autumn.

“Simon has made it clear that things have got to change and The X Factor must be the number one show on TV without question,” a source told the paper.

“Last year it was embarrassing being beaten in the ratings some weeks by Strictly Come Dancing, with all the buzz being about the BBC show instead of his.

Simon won’t allow that to happen again and he wants Brian back on board to help the show look outrageous and unbelievable,” the insider added.

“Brian worked on the US version of the show last year and Simon has sent out an SOS to get him back to the UK.”

Other changes will reportedly include the appointment of his personal make-up artist Julia Carta, as well as different stylists working with the finalists.
