Simon Cowell is said to have wined and dined Cheryl Cole in a bid to get her back on The X Factor.

The TV mogul is returning to the UK series later this year and apparently wants the former Girls Aloud singer on the panel.

The Sun reported that the pair met for a meal at Simon’s London pad and that he laid on the “full butler service” to win her over.

A source said: “She was happy and loved talking about the show. It’s pretty much nailed on that she’ll be back.”

Simon, 54, and Cheryl are apparently planning to meet again this week and the insider claimed the formal announcement about her return “could be made within weeks”.

Cheryl, 30, left the series in 2011 for the US version, but was axed from that following concerns that American audiences would not understand her Geordie accent.

The Daily Star said Simon has offered the singer a fat pay packet to take up a seat on the panel alongside him and has promised not to try and limit what she says if she signs up for the show.

However, it has also been reported that Cheryl fears returning because she doesn’t want her life to become “a media circus” again.

An insider told the Mirror: “Cheryl has happy memories of The X Factor – she won it twice and loved mentoring her acts. But she didn’t have any time to herself and doesn’t want the media circus around her like before.”

Simon announced last week that he would be back on the panel of the UK show, but suggested that decisions about who will join him have yet to be made.

He said: “Despite all the rumours, ITV and the producers have not decided on the rest of the judging panel quite yet. You’ll just have to wait and see.”

The US version of the show has ended after three seasons.
