Sophie had a fab time reuniting with David, Hugh Grant and co for tonight's Comic Relief special...
Four Weddings and a Funeral star Sophie Thompson has revealed it was “extraordinary” to be reunited with her former castmates for the much anticipated Red Nose Day sequel.
Sophie famously played Lydia in the original comedy, which saw her character get hitched to loveable Bernard (David Haig) – who can forget the scene where Hugh Grant’s character Charles got stuck in a bedroom while Lydia and Bernard, erm, got rather close?!
And Sophie, who was recently in Corrie, reveals that her and David were reunited on stage not that long ago.
“I’ve worked with David. We had to be in love with each other in the musical Guys and Dolls in London recently, so I’ve had the pleasure of snogging David on a few occasions – totally professionally, I might add!
“All the others I’ve seen round and about. It sounds a bit corny, but because of Four Wedding there’s this binding element – we were all part of a wonderful journey.”
The One Red Nose Day and a Wedding sketch has been penned by Richard Curtis 25 years after the original film.
Also returning are Hugh Grant (Charles), Andie MacDowell (Carrie), Kristin Scott Thomas (Fiona), John Hannah (Matthew), Rowan Atkinson (Father Gerald), Anna Chancellor (Henrietta) and James Fleet (Tom).
“It was extraordinary,” adds Sophie to TV Times. “It was filmed over two days and, actually, the only people who weren’t there were Charlotte Coleman, who, very sadly died so young and Simon Callow, whose character died in the film. Apart from that, all the original cast were there. There was a lot of giggling and people thinking ‘This is just ridiculously wonderful, aren’t we lucky?'”
Watch The One Red Nose Day and a Wedding sketch – which will feature some amazing guest stars – as part of Comic Relief night this evening.
