There's going to be more supernatural trouble for poor Alison and Mike!
Ghosts, created by the stars of Horrible Histories, will haunt BBC1 for a second series, it’s been announced.
The first series, starring ex Call the Midwife star Charlotte Ritchie, pulled in nearly four million viewers.
It revolved around a young couple, Alison (Charlotte) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe), who inherited a huge crumbling house only for Alison to discover she could see and talk to all the annoying ghosts living there!
Ghosts was a first BBC1 project for Horrible Histories stars Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas (who popped in EastEnders recently), Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, who also created and starred together in Yonderland.
The creators of the show said: “We are DEAD excited to be returning to BBC1 for a second series of Ghosts. We could not have asked for a more enthusiastic response to the show, and can’t wait to get haunting Button House once again.”
Shane Allen, Controller of Comedy Commissioning, added: “Ghosts gave us all a very pleasant shock in landing so fully formed as an instant mainstream hit. This very special gang of writer-performers have created a rich character world shot through with their trademark wit, warmth and mischief.”
Talking about the first series, Charlotte told us how Alison ends up becoming fond of the ghosts. “I love how quickly the spirits become annoying as opposed to scary. They are very bad at haunting anyway and once the initial shock is out of the way, they are just real pains. They are always under her feet and they’re always asking Alison for things. But she becomes quite fond of them in the end.”
The BBC is yet to reveal when the second series of the comedy will be on.
