Stars have been paying tribute following the announcement of Dame Elizabeth Taylor‘s death.
George Michael wrote on Twitter: “Such a sad day, Elizabeth Taylor was the last of the Hollywood greats, and a fantastically charming woman.
“She was also the only person I’ve ever met that had violet eyes. They were genuinely violet. So beautiful.
“She also did a great deal in the last 25 yrs to help the world deal with the HIV epidemic. I am proud to have known her if only a little.”
Kylie Minogue tweeted: “RIP Dame Elizabeth Taylor…..Like a pure white diamond you’ll shine on and on and on.”
Stephen Fry wrote on the social networking site: “RIP Dame Elizabeth Taylor, surely the last of a breed…”
Boy George tweeted: “R.I.P the amazing Liz Taylor, goddess, actress, aids activist and one of the world’s true beauties!”
Film critic Barry Norman said he had known her ‘very well’ during her relationship with Richard Burton.
He said: “They were at that time perhaps the two most famous people in the world, but she was an extremely nice woman and wore her great fame very lightly. She certainly did not swagger about.
“She was actually not at all a bad actress. In films like Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? she was extremely good.”
