Stephen Fry to star in The Hobbit films

Stephen Fry is joining the cast of The Hobbit.

Director Peter Jackson revealed on his Facebook page that the British actor-comedian will play the Master of Laketown in the Lord Of The Rings prequel, The Hollywood Reporter said.

“We are thrilled to confirm that Stephen Fry will be playing The Master of Laketown. In addition to his writing skills, he’s a terrific actor and will create a very memorable Master for us,” Peter posted.

He also revealed that the duo will be developing a remake of the classic World War II film, The Dambusters.

“I’ve known Stephen for several years, and we’re developing a Dambusters movie together,” he added.

The filmmaker also announced that British actor Ryan Gage, who last played swindler Johnny in Hollyoaks, will play the Master’s conniving civil servant, Alfrid, while seven-feet-tall stunt actor Conan Stevens has been cast as an Orc called Azog.

Martin Freeman portrays the titular character in the forthcoming two-part film, and is joined by Lord Of The Rings regulars Sir Ian McKellan, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis and Elijah Wood.
