Ali Bastian has missed out on a place in the Strictly Come Dancing final, after receiving the fewest public votes in the semi-final.

The Bill actress lost out after the dance-off was scrapped for the semi-final, leaving the result to be decided entirely by the public.

As a result, Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle and TV presenter Chris Hollins will go head to head in next weekend’s final in a bid for the coveted Glitterball Trophy.

Bastian – who has battled a foot injury to perform in recent weeks – said it was “devastating to be leaving the contest at this stage”.

“But at the same time I feel like we’re going out on a tremendous high,” she said, “it has been the most tremendous experience.”

Her dance partner Brian Fortuna agreed. “Ali you have made this season absolutely magical for me,” he said.

Earlier in the show the pair received full marks for their American Smooth, for the second time this series.

Goodman told her, “I loved your American Smooth the first time I saw it. This is better.”

Bastian and Fortuna are the only couple to have received full marks from the judges so far this series.

Next week’s final will see Hollins and Whittle perform a freestyle ‘showdance’ as well as other routines.
