Dan Lobb has become the second casualty of Strictly Come Dancing 2011 after finding himself in the bottom two for the first time.

The former tennis player turned Daybreak presenter – who scored just 24 points on Saturday night’s Broadway-themed show, got the boot following the second public vote of the series – which also saw Nancy dell’Olio have her first brush with the bottom two.

However the Italian siren and partner Anton du Beke lived to dance another week, as the combination of judges scores and public votes saw Dan finish bottom of the heap.

Afterwards he admitted that working with dance partner Katya Virshilas had been the highlight of his Strictly experience.

“The best bit has been dancing with Katya – it’s a wonderful opportunity to dance with somebody who works at the top of their profession, who is so talented,” he said.

And Katya was similarly enthusiastic. “I have loved every single moment of it. I loved my tennis lesson. I shall cherish that,” she told him.

Dan had received mixed reviews on Saturday night after he danced a Viennese Waltz with Katya to the Queen hit Somebody To Love from the musical We Will Rock You.

“You have an awkward nature about you,” Craig Revel Horwood had told him, while Bruno Tonioli added, “This song should carry you into another world, but you look like a casual acquaintance of Katya.”

Dan’s departure means that 12 couples remain to compete in next weekend’s show.

Favourites including Jason Donovan, Harry Judd and Holly Valance all sailed through to next week along with Russell Grant, Rory Bremner and Lulu.

Sunday’s show also featured a performance from Susan Boyle, who sang Unchained Melody while Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace performed a dance routine.
