Lulu has become the latest celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing, after landing in the bottom two for the first time.

The veteran pop star – who had partnered Brendan Cole on the show – had previously managed to avoid the danger zone but found herself fighting for survival against Audley Harrison on Sunday night’s results show.

And she was voted out after the combination of judges’ scores and public votes left her in last place – and Audley escaped the chop for the third time.

However Lulu took the defeat gracefully, describing her time on Strictly as “a lifetime’s special experience.”

“Everything about it’s been amazing, the people in front of the camera, the people behind the camera, the audience, the judges, I would never have missed it for a minute,” she said.

“We’re all so excited to be a part of the whole experience but somebody goes each week,” Brendan added, “and I’d like to say well done to Lulu.”

The singer had won a largely positive reaction for her tango on Saturday night’s show, particularly from guest judge Jennifer Grey who called the routine “phenomenal”.

“I have no idea what they’re putting in your porridge, but I want some,” she added.

However the other judges were more critical of the routine, with Bruno Tonioli saying, “It started so well…but then what happened? He was just dragging you around.”

Lulu’s departure leaves nine couples remaining – with favourites Chelsee Healey, Harry Judd, Holly Valance and Jason Donovan among those who made it through to next week on the public vote.

Alex Jones, Robbie Savage and Anita Dobson were also voted through, as was Russell Grant, who proved popular with the public despite finishing bottom of the judges’ scoreboard with 24 points.
