The eight remaining couples in Strictly Come Dancing have performed a variety of different dances in the latest edition of the show.
Each pair had the chance to try one of the dances which has already been featured on the show but which was new to them.
Kelly and Brendan kicked off proceedings with a jive, to the rock n’ roll classic Johnny B Goode. The energetic routine saw Kelly – dressed in a short, bright pink dress – receive a thumbs up from the judges.
Bruno Tonioli described the routine as “electrifying”, while Arlene Phillips said, “That was Kelly B good.”
Next it was the turn of Letitia and Darren who presented a foxtrot. Once again the panel was pleased. Craig Revel Horwood called it a “sweet, very very stylish routine,” while Arlene Phillips said the actress was “much improved”.
It wasn’t such good news for Kenny and Ola, however, who was compared to “a lump of granite” by Bruno. Craig said he was “bored” by his routine.
And it was also a disappointing evening for Gethin and Camilla, who danced a rumba. “It was well executed, everything was there but it lacked the lady killer instinct,” Bruno complained. “Not enough of the romance came from Gethin,” added Len Goodman.
John and Nicole also received a mixed response. While Len praised his tango, Craig said it “lacked drama and real style”. Next up was Kate Garraway – nursing a suspected broken rib – who failed to impress the judges with a dramatic paso doble to The Killers’ hit Somebody Told Me.
“A bull in a frock would have done a better paso doble,” Bruno quipped, while Craig acknowledged the GMTV presenter had done her best but the routine “lacked attack”.
However it was a better night for the last two couples, with Alesha and Matt wowing the judges with a waltz, and Matt and Flavia performing a quickstep. “That was the most difficult and complex choreography we’ve ever seen on show” Arlene told him. “Difficult moves and you danced them really well,” said Craig.
At the end of the show Alesha and Matt were heading the leader board. The results will be revealed on Sunday evening’s show.
