Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor had their first proper Saturday-night clash – and Strictly waltzed away with the bigger audience.

It seems Strictly can’t put a foot wrong with viewers as it was watched by more than nine million from 6.35pm on BBC1 on Saturday night, while The X Factor managed only 6.35 million from 8.00pm on ITV, adding 325,000 on the +1 channel, according to figures from BARB.

When the two shows overlapped at 8.00pm, Strictly had just over 10 million viewers, while X Factor had about 5.5 million.

X Factor’s Simon Cowell recently dismissed overnight viewing figures as “meaningless” but they clearly mean one thing: Strictly Come Dancing is the show more people want to watch.

Could the X Factor be on its last legs?

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC1, Saturday, November 1, 6.35pm.

The X Factor continues on ITV, Saturday, November 1, 8.00pm.
