Gavin Henson and Scott Maslen have missed out on a place in the Strictly Come Dancing 2010 final, following the weekend’s semi-final double bill.

The pair – both of whom had found themselves in the bottom two in previous weeks – missed out after receiving the lowest number of votes from viewers.

Their departure means that Pamela Stephenson, Kara Tointon and Matt Baker will compete in next Saturday’s final for this year’s Glitterball trophy.

Gavin Henson – who had finished bottom of the judges’ scoreboard on Friday and Saturday nights – was first to learn of his fate.

The rugby ace described his experience on the show as “awesome” – and described his dance partner Katya Virshilas as “amazing”.

“I’m a bit sad that it’s over,” he added. “It’s taken over my life the last three months.

“It’s been an awesome experience, and I’ve outdone myself. I didn’t really expect to get to the semi-finals. It was a big achievement just to get through the first week.

“I’m competitive,” Gavin admitted, “but as long as I know I’ve given everything I don’t mind losing.”

EastEnders star Scott – who had impressed the judges over the weekend with an Argentine Tango and Charleston – was the second celebrity to be eliminated.

Afterwards he said, “It’s been the best experience, maybe of my life. Such a learning curve to come in with no skill-set – a real challenge.”

The remaining trio will perform four dances each in next Saturday’s final including a show dance, in a bid to capture the title.
