New Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon has been branded ‘vacuous’ by furious fans who attacked her debut on the show’s panel over the weekend.

According to the Sunday Mirror thousands of complaints flooded in to the show’s official website, with many suggesting that she be dropped from the show and previous judge Arlene Phillips reinstated.

Dixon – who won the 2007 series of the show – was branded a “vacuous pop princess” and “totally pointless”, while another fan suggested, “Someone should fetch her coat.”

They hit out at the bland comments she made to the eight couples on the opening show, while the other judges chose to focus on the dancers’ techniques.

As of Saturday night over 2,000 comments discussing her debut had been posted on the official site – and other web forums were also flooded with negative reactions to her judging prowess.

And Len Goodman also added his own opinions to the ongoing debate, hinting that Dixon was struggling to cope with the job.

“I don’t think any of us ever thought they’d change the line up of judges,” he said.

“The panel is like a plant. It needs pruning to allow it to keep growing. But you don’t pull it up at the root.

“We’ve done seven years of this. We’ve served our apprenticeship but poor old Alesha has come in on week one.

“Alesha’s a sensible girl. She has limited knowledge on technique. I think she knows she can’t talk about the rise and fall of ballroom dancing. Can you imagine the kind of pressure she’s under?”

The BBC, however, said in a statement that Dixon had been a hit with viewers.

“We’re pleased at how fantastically well Alesha was received for her debut on Strictly Come Dancing last night and delighted that so many people tuned in and enjoyed the show,” the statement said.
