Supermarket chain won’t freeze out Peter Andre over anti Iceland joke

Peter Andre has faced a backlash from TV viewers after making a joke that he was embarrassed to be in the Iceland TV adverts.

The singer and TV presenter was appearing on Keith Lemon’s ITV2 panel show Celebrity Juice when he poked fun at himself for fronting the budget supermarket, but got a frosty reception from some fans of the show.

Olly Murs, who was also a guest on the show, said he was embarrassed when Keith mentioned that the Troublemaker singer had won Rear Of The Year, but Peter called out: “Olly, dude, you don’t need to be embarrassed, I’ve done an Iceland advert.”

However, some viewers didn’t take the joke well, with one tweeting: “So peter andre has been having a go at iceland on celebrity juice? dont bite the hand that feeds u peter, if u get sacked soon, u deserve it.”

Another added: “@MrPeterAndre taking a swipe at Iceland on @CelebJuice hope he gets fired and end [sic] up working in Iceland, how ironic.”

But others stuck up for him, with one fan tweeting: “People trying to get @MrPeterAndre sacked from @IcelandFoods is a bit crazy!!! lighten up people it was just a joke!! #CelebrityJuice.”

Iceland also supported the star when a Twitter user asked for their reaction to the joke, tweeting back: “He was just joking. It’s the nature of the show. He’s a top bloke.”

Things got awkward for Peter when one section of the comedy show asked whether a star was more attractive now or in the past – taking his ex-wife Katie Price as the celebrity in question.

Despite laughs from the audience and fellow panellists, Peter stayed quiet and straight-faced during the round.
