Superstar judge Mel C has admitted that it is hard work juggling a music career and being a parent – but she has managed to strike a balance between both.

The former Spice Girl, who is acting as a mentor in the audition stages of the Lloyd Webber show, has a three-year-old daughter, Scarlet – and revealed that she sometimes even takes her to music festivals when she is performing.

“Luckily I have lovely people that help me look after Scarlet and her dad’s around a lot as well,” Mel said. “So I think it’s just like any working mum, trying to fit stuff in. You just have to be organised. That’s the key.”

The 38-year-old is playing the role of Mary Magdalene in the forthcoming revival of Jesus Christ Superstar – with Lloyd Webber’s latest talent search looking for a new star to play the lead – and although she said she was ‘nervous and excited’ about the show she was not worried about performing.

“I’m kind of working anyway. I’m doing various shows with my band, and that’s great preparation for me, to be out there, singing live and keeping the vocals strong,” Mel said.

“I’m keeping myself fit and just looking forward to getting into rehearsals and seeing how it’s all going to unfold.

“But it will be nice to get some more acting experience, because it’s quite limited really. I’ve only done the one show.”

Superstar kicks off on ITV1 at 7.25pm on Saturday.
