The biggest event for Asian cinema in London, this year’s Terracotta Far East Film Festival kicks off on Friday 23 May and runs until Sunday 1 June, showcasing its signature mix of new movies and forgotten gems.
Each year the festival casts a Spotlight on the cinema of a particular country and this year’s focus is on the Philippines, beginning with the opening night premiere at the ICA, On the Job, a crime thriller from director Erik Matti in which prison inmates are hired by the government to carry out hits.
Elsewhere, both at the ICA and at main festival venue the Prince Charles Cinema, you’ll find an eclectic mix of Current Asian Cinema, including The Search For Weng Weng, a six-years-in-the-making documentary about forgotten 1980s Filipino superstar and spoof James Bond Weng Weng, at two foot nine inches tall cinema’s shortest ever martial arts star.
On Saturday 31 May the Prince Charles hosts the legendary Terror Cotta All-Nighter, and the festival goes out on a high with the international premiere of Japanese comedy Judge!
