Monsters UniversityWe want you to tell us which was 2013′s best animated film – and help decide the winner of the Animation category in this year’s Richard Attenborough Film Awards. You can cast your vote on the Movie Preview Network website but to help you make up your mind we’re posting brief reviews of the 10 nominated films. Next up is Monsters University.

The long-awaited prequel to Pixar’s 2001 animated gem Monsters, Inc is packed full of witty dialogue, sly visual gags and boisterous action. Once again, the heart of the movie lies in the joyous chemistry between Billy Crystal’s hyperactive green eyeball Mike and John Goodman’s furry blue beastie Sulley and here is where we discover the origins of their friendship as they turn from prickly rivals to bosom buddies while at the titular university. Alongside a bunch of fellow misfits from the Oozma Kappa fraternity, they end up competing in the Scare Games under the baleful eye of Helen Mirren’s dragon-like Dean Hardscrabble (a wonderful creation with millipede legs and bat wings). Enrol if you dare.

Here’s the shortlist, with our potted intros to jog your memory.
