The Greatest Dancer viewers spotted a very familiar face in the audience on Saturday night as the live shows kicked off.
As Cheryl, Strictly’s Oti Mabuse and Glee star Matthew Morrison geared up to watch their finalists take to the stage, none other than Mr Simon Cowell took his seat to catch a glimpse of the talented hopefuls.
The X Factor boss was introduced on the show by host Alesha Dixon – with the 59-year-old standing up in the crowd and waving to the rest of the cast next to girlfriend Lauren Silverman.
However, some viewers were left confused by his unexpected appearance in the BBC audience, with Simon usually choosing to stick with ITV shows including Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor.
On baffled fan wrote on Twitter: “Why is Simon Cowell in the audience??”
“Did I just see Simon Cowell on the bbc in the audience for @GreatestDancerTV #bbc #greatestdancer,” asked another.
A third said: “I spy Simon Cowell #GreatestDancer,” and a fourth joked: “A Saturday night entertainment show… I should have assumed Simon was involved.”
Despite the confusion, Simon was there for a very good reason as his production company Syco actually produced The Greatest Dancer.
Following 14 years of creating shows for ITV, this is the first time the music mogul paired up with the BBC.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Cheryl – who previously sat alongside Simon as a judge on The X Factor – opened up about working on the new show, admitting fellow dance captain Oti is the most competitive out of them all.
“[Oti] was the one stealing acts off of the table and hiding them from us!” she said.
“The thing is, she is so cute she gets away with it,” she added. “I love Oti, but she is way more competitive than me.”
Last night, drag act The Globe Girls were the first contestants knocked out of the competition which offers a £50,000 prize and a chance to perform on Strictly Come Dancing.
