The Inbetweeners stars Simon Bird and Joe Thomas are returning to their funny ways with Chickens, a new Sky1HD comedy set during the First World War.
The six-part historical comedy is written by Joe and Simon and their friend Jonny Sweet and revolves around three men who stay behind in a village while their peers head off to fight for their country.
The ‘chickens’ are the object of vitriol from locals for avoiding the war, especially from local headmaster Mr Armstrong, played by Barry Humphries (AKA Dame Edna Everage), who takes great joy in continually scorning their cowardice.
A pilot of Chickens actually premiered as part of a comedy showcase on Channel 4 last year, but Sky1HD stepped in to commission the series after Channel 4 didn’t.
Chickens will premiere on Sky1HD on Thursday, August 22, although Sky customers will be able to see an exclusive preview of the first episode via Sky On Demand from August 16.
