The family confirmed the news on Twitter.

“We’ve loved every min of our involvement. It’s the best show on TV & I want to thank everyone for their wonderful support we’ll miss u.

“Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year with love and all our heartfelt thanks from all the Michael family.”

A spokesperson for Channel 4 said: “Sadly any cast member becoming a party candidate will have to step down from involvement in Gogglebox.

“The Michaels have been excellent contributors and we are very grateful.”

The family were not on Gogglebox last week after it emerged that Andrew had been picked to contest the Hastings and Rye seat.
