Presenter John Craven has revealed the secret of Countryfile’s success – family viewing and a strict code of conduct!
“I think parents like children to watch it on a Sunday evening – they know they’ll learn about the countryside,’ says John, in a break from filming the show’s 25th anniversary special. “There won’t be any swearing, there won’t be any sex – unless it involves animals at a distance!”
Sunday’s 25th celebration features a country fayre, filmed at co-host Adam Henson’s Gloucestershire farm. Guests include Nigel Slater, impressionist Jon Culshaw and 250 devoted fans; celebrity geese herding and a quiz, hosted by John, are among the events.
“Countryfile is a vicarious trip every week,” says John, a Countryfile presenter of 24 years. “You can sit in your armchair every Sunday and be out in the country – that’s where people want to be.”
