Andrea Begley, last year’s winner of The Voice UK, has sound advice for the contestants ahead of the first live show on Saturday night.

Partially sighted singer Andrea, 28, from Northern Ireland, who beat hot favourite Leah McFall to the title, admits she was very anxious about performing on the first live show last year.

She said: “It’s nerve-wracking because you know your coach can’t save you any more – your fate now lies in the hands of the public and you don’t know how they’re going to vote.

“But, although I was nervous, I knew it was important to enjoy the experience because you never know when you’re going to be eliminated.

“I figured I’d done very well to at least get to the live shows, so every week I stayed in the competition after that was a bonus.”

Andrea, who’s currently writing songs for her second album, has picked out some favourites from this year’s final 12.

“Being a Northern Ireland girl, I’ve got a soft spot for Rachael O’Connor, so I’m looking forward to seeing how well she does. I also think Christina Marie is excellent – she did fantastically at the knockouts and has got an amazing voice.”

The Voice UK live shows begin on Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC1.
