Jamie Archer has become the latest casualty of X Factor, after finding himself in the bottom two for the first time this series.

The big-haired singer – the first of Simon’s acts to be eliminated from the competition – lost out after finding himself in the sing-off with Lloyd Daniels.

He performed Queen’s The Show Must Go On in an attempt to stay in the competition, while Lloyd opted for Paolo Nutini‘s Last Request.

And once again the judges found the decision a tough one – with Louis and Cheryl opting to save Lloyd.

“I’m going to save the person who has the most potential and has the most appeal,” Louis said.

Dannii, however, sent the vote back to deadlock once again.

“This is hard because nobody wants to send anyone home,” she said. “There are two pop stars standing in front of us. For me, it’s not about deadlock or not about deadlock, it’s about who sang the best.”

Jamie was then revealed as having received the fewest public votes.

“I just want to thank everyone who supported me,” he said afterwards, “and it’s not the end, it’s the beginning.”

Simon Cowell said that he felt “sorry” for the singer.

“I let him down probably with the song choice, but it’s just one of those things.”

Five acts – including Olly, Stacey, Joe and Danyl – made it through to next week on the pulic vote.

Twins John and Edward also sailed through despite landing in last week’s bottom two, and being saved in a controversial result which saw Lucie Jones sent home.

The show also featured a performance from Shakira, while all 12 finalists appeared to perform this year’s X Factor charity single, a cover of Michael Jackson’s You Are Not Alone.

All proceeds from sales of the track will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
