The X Factor winner Sam Bailey debuts at No 1 in the album chart

The X Factor winner Sam Bailey has topped the charts with her debut album The Power Of Love.

Sam’s album, which is the first No 1 by an X Factor winner since Alexandra Burke in 2009, includes covers of tracks such as From This Moment On and the Dreamgirls song And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going, together with the title track, originally by Jennifer Rush.

“This really is the icing on the cake to an incredible few months,” said Sam. “I’ve worked hard to get where I am and I’m so happy that everyone is liking what I’m doing. It really is a dream come true!”

Sam knocked George Michael’s Symphonic off the top spot, with the highest new entry, Going Back Home, a collaboration between Roger Daltrey and terminally ill guitarist Wilko Johnson in at three.

The 40th anniversary edition of Sir Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road debuted at number 12, while Shakira’s latest self-titled album came in at 14.
