7 things you didn’t know about Emma Barton – AKA EastEnders favourite Honey Mitchell

From running marathons to treading the boards, there's lots you might not know about lovely Emma...

Emma Barton is best known to soap fans as loveable Honey Mitchell in EastEnders, but as well as spending her time behind the counter in Walford’s Minute Mart, Emma is also currently embracing fake tan and sequins as she takes on the exciting challenge of taking part in the seventeenth series of Strictly Come Dancing.

But what do we know about the actress behind Walford’s nicest resident? Here are 7 things you might not know about EastEnders favourite Emma Barton…

1. EastEnders isn’t her first TV role

After graduating from the Guildford School of Acting in 1998 Emma landed a role BBC drama Spooks. She has also appeared in daytime soap Doctors and the 2013 crime thriller Who Needs Enemies.

Emma joined the cast of EastEnders back in 2005 and played the role of Honey Mitchell until 2008. She then went on to appear in various theatre productions, before returning to the role of Honey in 2014 and has stayed in Walford ever since.

2. She ran the London Marathon for Dementia UK

Back in April this year Emma, along with some of her EastEnders co-stars, ran the gruelling 26.2 mile race as part of the team Barbara’s Revoloutionaries, who ran for their former co-star Dame Barbara Windsor who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014.

But Dementia Revolution isn’t the only charity Emma supports. She is also a very proud patron of Down’s syndrome Association and Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association

3. Her Walford co-stars are proud of her Strictly journey

Emma is one of many EastEnders stars who have taken part in Strictly Come Dancing, with Letitia Dean (Sharon), Jake Wood (Max) and Davood Ghadami (Kush) among those who have waltzed their way around the dance floor.

But they’re not the only ones who are behind the actress as she battles it out for the coveted glitter ball trophy… Natalie Cassidy (Sonia), Lorraine Stanley (Karen) and Tamzin Outhwaite (Mel) have also sent her messages of support.

4. She is good friends with dance partner Anton du Beke

As well as dancing, Emma and Anton seem to spend a lot of their rehearsal time drinking coffee and eating buns! The pair have shared numerous hilarious videos of them in training, and Emma’s social media is full of praise for the king of ballroom.

5. She loves treading the boards

Aside from EastEnders, Emma’s other career highlights are her stage appearances. Over the years Emma has starred as Roxie Hart in a 2009 tour of Chicago, and has also appeared in One Man, Two Guvnors, Doctor In The House, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Annie and Grease.

She is also a fan of panto and played Tinkerbell in Peter Pan in 2016 along side another EastEnders favourite, Shaun Williamson (Barry Evans) who appeared as Captain Hook.

6. She took part in Celebrity Masterchef

In 2014 Emma took part in BBC cooking show Celebrity MasterChef, only to be eliminated almost immediately. She wasn’t the only familiar face from EastEnders to take part that year… Todd Carty (Mark Fowler) and Alex Ferns (Trevor Morgan) were also part of the line up.

7. She has a gorgeous pet dog called Poppy

When Emma isn’t busy filing at the EastEnders studios or dancing her socks off with Anton, she likes nothing better than spending time with her gorgeous dog, Poppy.

Fans are always thrilled when she shares pictures of her beloved pet on social media, and it seems Poppy is something of a fashionista herself with her away of gorgeous neckerchiefs!

EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC1.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 airs on Saturday nights at 6.45pm and Sunday nights at 7.15pm on BBC1.
