‘This is not the end of us,’ says Only The Young as they exit The X Factor

As viewers will have expected by now, it wasn’t the worst act that was voted off The X Factor in Saturday night’s first of a double elimination, it was Only The Young.

It was the Elton John vs Whitney Houston song week, and Simon Cowell told the group: “I think you’ve come alive in the last three weeks, I don’t think you’ll be going home,” after they had performed “Something About The Way You Look Tonight”.

Louis Walsh, the group’s mentor, said after the result: “They just need a record deal. They could be a massive pop group.”

Only The Young’s elimination was done on the public vote alone; the next act to leave will go after a sing-off on Sunday night.

Like Mel B and Cheryl, Louis now has just one act left in the competition, the newly-formed Stereo Kicks, who were the only act to get a standing ovation from the judges on Saturday night.

“Now I see you as a proper group,” Mel told the boys, after they had performed “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”.

“You just did it,” added Simon. “You did everything right. Your best performance by a mile.”

The X Factor continues on ITV, Sunday, November 23, 8.00pm.
